OECD Watch Quarterly Case Update and Annual NCP Review

The Case Update and NCP Review contain research and analysis of developments in over 60 OECD Guidelines cases over the past year and a half, and identifies trends in NCPs' handling of cases and recommendations for improving their performance.

The highlights of the Quarterly Case Update include eleven new cases filed against Andritz, China Gold International Resources, Alliance Boots, G4S, Dae Kwang Chemical and six insurance companies from New Zealand. WWF and SOCO reached landmark agreement following a UK NCP-facilitated mediation. The UK NCP is also facilitating mediation on the Britisch Gas/Chevron/ENI cases and between RAID and ENRC. The Canadian NCP publishes a final statement for the Barrick Gold case in Papua New Guinea. The South Korean NCP closes Il-Kyoung case concerning labour rights violation in the Philippines without publishing a final statement or even officially informing the complainants.

The Annual NCP Review identifies trends in NCPs’ handling of specific instances based on a comprehensive review of the 34 specific instances that were filed by CSOs between 1 January 2013 and 23 June 2014, plus an additional 33 cases that had major developments or remained pending during the review period. Based on this analysis, the submission concludes with a number of concrete recommendations for improving NCP performance.
